Creating Vintage Hairstyles

Have you been staring at that old photo with that beautiful hairstyle for a while now? But you just can't seem to replicate it on yourself? Every woman has different hair and different desires. That's why the vintage salon is tailored to each individual. We work in small groups so that attention can be evenly distributed, allowing enough time and space for each participant.

What will you learn?

To know what vintage hairstyles are possible for you, you first need to get to know your own hair. This way, you'll avoid the frustration of trying to mimic a look that's not suitable for your hair, while there are so many other possibilities. We'll go step by step to see what you need to achieve the desired result. What you can achieve with the right materials and products. For those who are more skilled, this day is perfect for getting tips and tricks that are specifically applicable to your hair, making styling or fixing even easier. We'll also explore how to make your hairstyle as sturdy as possible so it lasts longer.

What to bring?

All materials and products are provided, but it's nice to bring your own equipment so you can learn how to work with it best. Pins, clips, and accessories are not included in the price. You can bring your own pins or purchase (vintage) pins from the instructor on-site.

Mending Vintage Cloting

Don't want to just throw away your beloved wounded vintage clothing? But can't quite figure it out yourself? With a few simple interventions, it can have a well-deserved second life, often without a sewing machine! Repairing clothes is sustainable, good for your wallet, and also wonderfully zen to do. At the vintage salon, you'll learn how!

What will you learn?

We'll get hands-on with the damaged clothing items you bring. Taking into account the time and your own abilities/sewing level, we'll try to make your clothing wearable again. You'll receive personal advice and learn specific techniques to address the issues of your clothing. You'll also learn about materials and tools you can use for clothing repair. By the end of the salon, you'll have made one or more clothing items wearable again and learned a bunch of techniques that you can continue to apply at home to damaged clothing items.

What to bring?

Clothing with torn seams or loose hems, stains, holes, tears, broken zippers, missing buttons or hooks. If you have some sewing supplies at home, you can bring them: needles, pins, thread, scissors, tape measure, and a seam ripper. If you don't have these, don't worry, all necessary tools are provided. And if you want to continue working at home, you can buy a Mending Kit from the instructor on-site. There are also (vintage) haberdashery and materials for sale.

About the instructors

Wendy de Ridder has been working in the hairdressing industry since 1985. She completed a hairdressing course at the Kappers Academie Amsterdam. After working for various employers in the hairdressing industry for 20 years, she made a detour into theater after completing a theater design course, focusing mainly on costumes. At the same time, she started her mobile hairdressing business. Since 2007, she has been running her business Chasjo Support/Chasjo Styling with her husband, Martin, as the technical producer and Wendy as the stylist. Nowadays, she mainly focuses on her mobile hair salon: coloring, cutting, and styling people at home. She also launched her own line of vintage hair products: Miss Pretty Rolls.

Sofie Huybrechts works as a tailor at Laura Dols Vintage in Amsterdam, where she repairs and alters clothing for customers. Additionally, she creates vintage-inspired clothing pieces by order. Due to her love for vintage clothing, she has been repairing and altering clothes herself since a young age. Later, she pursued a course in women's tailoring. Before moving to Amsterdam, she taught sewing classes to adults at night school in Belgium for several years.
